Title: Unbreakable

The heat is unbearable when you have no home
And the despicable repossession agent is after your car
And a fifteen month old is crying in confusion
Trapped in the backseat
And everyone you know who's rich
Is suddenly apparently on the brink of welfare

The hunger is unbearable when you're lost
And there's nowhere to park
Without the self-righteous police tapping on your window
And you have no gas
And your credit card is at the limit

The pain is unbearable when your nana dies
When you're away at war
And your most beloved aunt dies two years later
And your grandfather dies two months later
And your mother has a stroke two weeks later
And you find out it's going to be another girl two days later
And you loose your job two hours later.

The hatred is unbearable when they tell their lies
And they beat you with false testimony
And they say that you're sick
And they steal her money while she's paralyzed
And they murder him after changing his will
And they go on a cruise to Mexico

The cold is unbearable when it freezes your heart
And strangles your ventricles
And turns your blood to black tar
And fills your mind with rage
And fear
And distrust

The desire is unbearable when you know your baby knows
When you see your wife suffer more than you
When you see them all smile and go about their ways
And turn their backs when she's pregnant
And hungry
And you have eighteen dollars in your wallet …
Soon to be seven

And then you die in your sleep
And the message comes to you
And the angels stare at you,
Angry and disappointed
And your grandmother shakes her head
But then she smiles
And says go back
And try again

And the love is unbreakable when you wake up next to your daughter
Knowing it was a dream
And your wife is holding her
And you see her swollen belly
And the sun is burning the curtains
And you walk to the window and open them
And you look up into the light and the life
And promise to try harder
And swear to live better
And drive slower
And work harder
And help strangers
And smile warmly at everyone who crosses your path

And you love the Earth
You love the oxygen
You love the pain
You love the rain and the hail and the fog

And you thank God
And the Universe
And the Soul
And the Energy
For letting you be happy
For at least one more day.

And the warmth is poured across your chest
And your knees hit the floor
And your eyes explode
