Title:
Hilltop in Kentucky.
In my mind I'm on a hilltop in Kentucky Counting blessings and thinking gosh I'm lucky Granny's on the porch plucking chickens Mother stirs the grits to stop 'em sticking I look at all the wood that still needs chopping Think I'll hitch the horse go do some shopping Maybe go fetch water from the stream In my mind I've got a country dream.
But I'm living in a hi-rise in the poorer part of town The pavement is my prairie, twenty seven floors down I can rustle up a barbecue on my new electric range I buy my meat with the fur still on though the butcher finds it strange.
In my mind I'm a metre across the shoulders Mean at times with a temper that just smoulders Men don't mess and women think I'm crazy But I hold my drink like a mother holds her baby In my mind I'm as ruthless as the devil Hard to please but dealing on the level The windows rattle when I let off steam In my mind I've got a country dream.
But I'm weaker than a whisper and as well dressed as a bum I'm scared to turn the lights out in case the nightmares come Whisky leaves me ill at ease, wine just makes me sick Women take one look at me and then get out double quick. In my mind I'm on a hilltop in Kentucky.
