Title:
The Sands of the Desert.
On the sands of the desert there are tears shed tonight Loneliness hangs in the air Fear is felt deep but kept out of sight As weakness can lead to despair God is kept busy with prayers from strangers Not knowing which ones to ignore You must silently suffer and accept the dangers When you're caught in the midst of a war.
It takes two generations to damp down the hate That a few weeks of war can provide Lifetimes will pass until we stop to relate The exploits of the heroes who died Then we'll help to rebuild what we've helped to destroy The same way we've done it before But it's vague the elation and short lived the joy That you feel at the end of a war.
The sands of the desert will soak up the blood A warm wind will cover the dead Gravestones will stand where the soldiers once stood With brave soldier dreams in their heads And it'll just be remembered as the scene of a battle Like Waterloo or Agincourt A date in the history books, a memory and that'll Be all that is left of the war. A date in the history books, a memory and that'll Be all that is left of the war.
