Title:
The Cost of Living.
We're burning down the forests
The elephant has had its day It's snowing in the desert The North Pole melts away The ozone layer's disappearing The coral reefs are nearly dead We're more concerned about the price of bread.
We're worried 'bout the cost of living
Incensed by the interest rates There's no place to park, don't go out in the dark There are dangers all over the place The air's not fit to be breathing The sea can be seen at its worst And we're worried 'bout the cost of water While the rivers are dying of thirst.
We're building bombs and rockets
To protect us against the foe Build roads to fit the cars Build cars to fill the roads Machines that can do the work of ten Machines that can build machines How can we be living way beyond our means.
We're worried 'bout the cost of living Incensed by the interest rates There's no place to park, don't go out in the dark There are dangers all over the place The air's not fit to be breathing The sea can be seen at its worst And we're worried 'bout the cost of water While the rivers are dying of thirst.
The rain was falling steady In the wettest spring for years As the town went up in flames The raindrops fell like tears You couldn't drink the water You shouldn't eat the meat A million people were marching through the street.
Protesting 'bout the cost of living Incensed by the interest rates There's no place to park, don't go out in the dark There are dangers all over the place The air's not fit to be breathing The sea can be seen at its worst And we're worried 'bout the cost of water While the rivers are dying of thirst.
