Title: Bag of thorns

Bag of thorns

I went into the florists
and bought a bag of thorns.
Awoke the next day early,
on Valentines day morn.

I glued each one on carefully,
the bare stems of my flowers.
The seconds turned to minutes,
the minutes turned to hours.

For life is like my bleeding hands,
it must be understood.
You must endure the bad times,
to then enjoy the good.

I gave them to my true love,
who makes my world complete.
"A rose without its thorns" they say,
"just does not smell as sweet".
