He constructed a time machine from four bottles of Campo Viejo, an empty stomach, and an unreasonable desire to bang on about the past; went backwards through two marriages which both began with divorce, characterised by bouts of increased sexual ardour, and by the second achieved a full head of hair; debts and credits were variously accumulated and lost; bought and sold numerous cars which became more rudimentary with each transaction (his final machine was a Hillman Hunter); beckoning childhood resulted in increased gaiety and diminishing coherence; his penis withered; soon enough he lost the faculty of speech; legs went next; when I left him, around 1 in the morning, he was crying like a baby and had crapped himself.
