Title: Condolence

Condolence -
what a hard and horrible word.
It means nothing, just a cheap utterance.
Corporations whine condolence
in downcast tones,
then quickly change the subject.
The word has no reassuring ring -
just hard consonants that catch in the mouth,
nothing soothing - truly meant.

I believe in sorrow,
I understand sadness, I’ve known it.
Condolence is careless, unconcerned.
Power bleats condolence.
Families whisper sorrow.
