Title: Dorothy and the sunburn cream

Lunch had gone down very well! We had chips today, and everyone likes chips.
Laura came beaming into the dining-room with her usual cheery smile - to take orders for pudding. We usually have a choice, a main ‘pud’, and/or ice-cream or fruit.

She starts at the table next to ours. Dorothy an d Irene both have great trouble hearing and remembering their hearing-aids. The other lady at the table gets very cross with them.
“What would you like today Dorothy? We’ve got some crème caramel today, and you like that.”
“Sun cream? What on?”
“N o Dorothy - some crème caramel - not sun cream.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever eaten sun-cream. I rub it on .”
“No Dorothy - this is a creamy custard.”
“But that wont cure sunburn. I remember getting sunburn. It was very sore.”
“Would you like a nice creamy pudding Dorothy.”
Laura vanishes quickly before it gets more complicated.
Dorothy looks bewildered and says to the rest of the table -
“They’ve never given us the sun-cream in the dining-room before. It must be a very sunny day. “
The others all agree with her and say ‘Yes - it must be’ They smile cheerfully and tell each other the name of their favorite sun-cream.
When Laura comes in with the crème caramel they all tuck in without a word. Sun-cream quite forgotten.
