Title:
Throw away
Throw away
My duster sweeps the shining shelves
before I winkle out the random shards
caught between these leaning books.
Moving house has never been so hard.
Sweeping dust - so long untouched -
releases long-held yearnings
for each book as - one by one -
I hold their magic pages, turning
them once again, recalling what I loved
about these much-read treasures;
too precious to be thrown away.
I contemplate these tearful measures.
When I close the door upon my spacious home
to live within the confines of one small room
which cherished friends of childhood must I leave?
How I shall miss their powerful old-book perfume.
