The Careless Heart
How did it happen?
Did we have a reason?
A regret?
There were nights when sleep
was swept away
by a careless heart-ache.
Are we programmed to enshrine
our life's existence with a solitary love.
Can it be honourably possible
to feel the yearning for another
far above what seems the natural
way of things.
Can it be so? - indeed it can,
and when it does it tears you apart.
There is no answer -
no annulment
of the tears that drown
an overloaded heart.
